The 2011 Met Buoy Data, Burger Study Area, Chukchi Sea dataset contains meteorological data collected for ConocoPhillips, Shell Oil Company, and Statoil on one buoy moored in the northeastern Chukchi Sea during the open water season of 2011. Buoy MOB3 was located within the Burger study area, a 30 x 30 nautical mile region located on the Chukchi outer continental shelf. Met buoy data parameters include buoy coordinates, wind direction, wind speed, wind gusts, air temperature, relative humidity, air pressure, and dew point. This metadata file has not been reviewed by the contractor who created the data set. Buoy Description Buoy MOB3, an AXYS WatchKeeper buoy, was 1.75 m in diameter with a focal height of 2.25m. The body was constructed from medium density UV-stabilized polyethylene molded to form a seamless 9.5 mm thick hull filled with expanded polystyrene foam. The buoy used concrete as ballast and included vertical solar panels. A self-contained marine lantern (SolaMAX-155), constructed out of UV-Stabilized material with 140 mm Fresnel lens, was mounted to the buoy. Molded into the lantern were six 5 watt panels and a high intensity LED flasher. The flasher was visible up to 3 miles away and had a lifespan of 50,000 hours of continuous operation. Power for the instruments was provided by four GNB SUNLyte 5000 X 12 Volt, 100 amp hour batteries. These batteries were kept charged by an onboard system of solar cells (Solar Panels: 4 x 20Wt). The operational system voltage was 11 to 14.1 VDC. The solar panels were SunSaver 6 amp smart chargers. Instrumentation and Electronics The AXYS buoy was equipped with a Rotronic MP101A air temperature and relative humidity sensor, and a Vaisala PTB210 barometer. An R.M. Young 05103-45 Alpine anemometer was mounted 10 feet above the water. The buoy contained a SkyWave GPS transceiver that used the Inmarsat D+ satellite network to provide asset tracking entitled "WatchCircle Alarm". The Iridium satellite network was used to transmit measured data. MOB3 was equipped with a Carmanah 701-5 navigation lamp.
